This cancer patient donated 60 vegetarian meals as a way of giving back!

According to a Facebook post by Bishan Vegetarian, Mr Xu Weijie donated 60 packets of vegetarian meals through them as a wish to encourage more people to eat vegetarian. What caught our attention was that he was a 30 years old, stage 4 cancer patient.

In an article by Lianhe Wanbao, Mr Xu used to be a marathon runner who completed more than 20 marathon races. He also once helped his brother with his business. But in March last year, he suffered from a hoarse voice and a sore throat, where he was eventually diagnosed with a rare soft tissue cancer called Rhabdomyosarcoma after a visit to the doctor’s.

Mr Xu is unable to eat or speak. He can only drink milk and water through a tube. He even shared by typing on his phone, “I was in a very low mood. I didn’t expect to get cancer at a young age. I exercised regularly.” But thanks to the encouragement of his loved ones, Mr Xu decided to fight against his illness.

As many people are currently struggling due to the pandemic, Mr Xu expressed his wish to help others as a way of giving back. He then contacted the owner of Bishan Vegetarian, whom he knows well, to make 60 meals on his behalf.

His mother was reportedly moved to tears upon learning of her son’s kind deeds when she went to the stall to take away food that day.

—

Although what Mr Xu experienced must have caused him lots of anguish, he still decided to be of use to others and give back to society. That is truly big-hearted of him! Here’s to wishing Mr Xu a speedy recovery ahead!

“At the end of the day, it’s not about what you have or what you’ve accomplished. It’s about who you lifted up and who you’ve made better. It’s about what you’ve given back.” – Denzel Washington

The post Cancer patient donates 60 pack of vegetarian food as a way of giving back first appeared on The Royal Singapore.

The post Cancer patient donates 60 pack of vegetarian food as a way of giving back appeared first on The Royal Singapore.

Do you remember Singapore’s very first A&W outlet?

When it was announced that A&W would be coming back to the shores of our little red dot 2 years ago, it made Singaporeans everywhere excited. On the opening day, there were snaking-long queues that lasted for about an hour.

So why were Singaporeans so hyped about A&W?

This dates back all the way to Singapore’s first A&W outlet in 1966. Netizens whose schools were nearby the fast food restaurant recalled going there for either a before or after school treat, having the Coney Dogs for Tuesday specials. Someone also recalled the “Papa Burger, Mama Burger, and Baby Burger” – something that is no longer available in today’s A&W menu.

Unfortunately, A&W had to close down back then due to a canal widening scheme around the area where they’re located. Although that brought disappointment to many Singaporeans, that place definitely left many good memories for us.

What was your go-to order at A&W?

The post We had our very first Root Beer Float here first appeared on The Royal Singapore.

The post We had our very first Root Beer Float here appeared first on The Royal Singapore.

This uncle makes portraits using twigs!

On 15 July, Alex Chua took to Facebook to share an encounter he had with an elderly uncle. He shared that whenever he goes to buy food at Owen Road, he will never fail to see an elderly uncle sitting at the same spot moving twigs on the floor.

After seeing him quite a few times, Mr Chua decided to approach him to see what he was doing out of curiosity. What he saw left him in awe. Apparently the uncle was making a portrait of a lady just by using twigs! He even added small details like the eyelashes.

Mr Chua also added that the uncle was friendly and looked like he was in his seventies.

Netizens have soon come forward to express their amazement, saying that the uncle is talented and that his work is “incredibly magnificent”. Some also mentioned that they spotted some of his other artwork before.

—

Like what Mr Chua said, “Regardless of education, gender, orientation and age, art holds no boundaries nor restrictions.” To be able to use only twigs to create such beautiful art pieces, that is real talent right there.

Hope to see more of this uncle’s artworks one day!

The post Elderly uncle spotted making portraits out of twigs first appeared on The Royal Singapore.

The post Elderly uncle spotted making portraits out of twigs appeared first on The Royal Singapore.

On 11 July, two bus buses collided at Bukit Batok Bus Interchange, causing one of them to crash through a railing and land on its side. Inside the bus was the bus captain and 15 other passengers.

This premature baby born at 24 weeks is finally discharged from the hospital after 5 months!

The baby, named Eloise, only weighed 670g back then. She was reported to be only the size of an adult palm. As her organs were not yet fully developed, she had to be put under observation in an incubator, leading her medical expenses to hit around $400,000.

$400,000 was no small sum for the parents. As such, a fundraising campaign was started by One Hope Charity & Welfare, where donors from all over the world pitched in to help. Eventually, the online campaign officially achieved 100% of their goal of around $400,000 from over 7900 donations within 29 hours!

Thanks to the kind donors, Eloise was given a chance to live. According to One Hope Charity & Welfare, she now weighs around 4kg and is measured to be 50.5cm tall.

—

To be able to see Eloise all healthy and being able to go home in her parents’ arms touches my heart. It is heartwarming to see everyone from around the world coming together for a great cause. Because of that, they gave this baby a life and her parents a healthy child.

Thank you to everyone who contributed! Your kindness really made a difference to this family of three.

The post Premature baby born at 24 weeks is finally discharged first appeared on The Royal Singapore.

The post Premature baby born at 24 weeks is finally discharged appeared first on The Royal Singapore.

This delivery rider went out of his way to get candles for his customer!

They say that a simple act of kindness is more than enough to make one happy. This is the case for Instagram user, @bobmubarak. He took to social media to share a story about his delightful experience with a delivery rider.

3 days ago, @bobmubarak shared that he ordered cheesecake via Grab delivery but had forgotten to ask for candles. As such, he messaged his rider for help, asking if he could help him check with the shop if they had candles. Unfortunately, the shop does not provide candles.

What happened next left @bobmubarak pleasantly surprised and thankful. His delivery rider offered to get candles for him from another shop despite the former telling him that it’s alright.

Indeed, when his cheesecake was delivered, it came with a box of candles as well. He said, “It was not a small gesture. As a customer, I felt like this was a huge gesture and he was extremely kind and sincere about it.”

—

For the delivery rider to go out of his way for his customer, that is truly admirable and something to be praised for!

Being a delivery rider isn’t easy… Due to the nature of COVID restrictions in this period, these people are working extra hard for the sake of us Singaporeans.

Delivery riders often receive several orders at one go, having to deliver them back to back without being able to catch a break. Sometimes they even have to wait a long time for the food to be prepared during peak hours.

Like what @bobmubarak said, we all tend to forget their hard work at times, and sometimes just a simple “thank you” from us is enough to make their day. Let’s not stop appreciating these unsung heroes of ours!

The post This delivery rider went out of his way to get candles for his customer! first appeared on The Royal Singapore.

The post This delivery rider went out of his way to get candles for his customer! appeared first on The Royal Singapore.

Netizen Sophia Sofii posted this wholesome interaction on Facebook and warmed the hearts of many.

Mr Loh, a veteran cyclist, has been doing the sport for a long time, and from his photos, he has cycled in different countries, different roads and conditions.

Sophia’s son loves cycling, so when she showed him some photos from Mr Loh’s account, her son was really inspired and wanted to do what Mr Loh does!

After learning about this, Mr Loh wanted to give the boy his OCBC Ride 2021 medal, to motivate him to go for more rides! They eventually met up for the first time, and her son was so overjoyed that he teared up.

This post is really how strangers can affect each others’ lives, even just for a moment in time. A little step from us might be a huge one for somebody else.

For Mr Loh, this medal might’ve been another trophy of many, but he knew that it would mean the world to a little boy who has big dreams. Thank you, Sophia, for sharing this story and thank you, Mr Loh, for inspiring and motivating the next generation!

The post This uncle gave this boy a medal and inspired the boy to continue cycling! first appeared on The Royal Singapore.

The post This uncle gave this boy a medal and inspired the boy to continue cycling! appeared first on The Royal Singapore.

She bought 105 packets from them, and 75 is free for those in need!

This period definitely hasn’t been easy on our hawkers, especially those who are older in age.

Netizen Sammi Siek shared her story on how she ended up buying 105 packets of chicken rice, to “Pay It Forward”. She wrote that these hawkers were having difficulty sustaining in this difficult period.

According to Lianhe Wanbao, a man ordered 20 packets of chicken rice from them on credit, and didn’t pay for it in the end.

But they decided to let it go, as they empathised that maybe the man has his own difficulties.

After hearing their story, Sammi decided to purchase 105 packets from them, and after deducting 20 packets, 75 would be left for the public. She also prompted the public to show some support for these kind hawkers!

This is an incredible example of Paying It Forward, and Sammi is doing it right. There are many other hawkers and people out there in need during these difficult times, so if we can, let’s try our best to help and support whoever needs our kindness!

The post She bought 105 packets from them, and 75 is free for those in need! first appeared on The Royal Singapore.

The post She bought 105 packets from them, and 75 is free for those in need! appeared first on The Royal Singapore.
