According to a Facebook post by Bishan Vegetarian, Mr Xu Weijie donated 60 packets of vegetarian meals through them as a wish to encourage more people to eat vegetarian. What caught our attention was that he was a 30 years old, stage 4 cancer patient.

In an article by Lianhe Wanbao, Mr Xu used to be a marathon runner who completed more than 20 marathon races. He also once helped his brother with his business. But in March last year, he suffered from a hoarse voice and a sore throat, where he was eventually diagnosed with a rare soft tissue cancer called Rhabdomyosarcoma after a visit to the doctor’s.

Mr Xu is unable to eat or speak. He can only drink milk and water through a tube. He even shared by typing on his phone, “I was in a very low mood. I didn’t expect to get cancer at a young age. I exercised regularly.” But thanks to the encouragement of his loved ones, Mr Xu decided to fight against his illness.

As many people are currently struggling due to the pandemic, Mr Xu expressed his wish to help others as a way of giving back. He then contacted the owner of Bishan Vegetarian, whom he knows well, to make 60 meals on his behalf.

His mother was reportedly moved to tears upon learning of her son’s kind deeds when she went to the stall to take away food that day.

Although what Mr Xu experienced must have caused him lots of anguish, he still decided to be of use to others and give back to society. That is truly big-hearted of him! Here’s to wishing Mr Xu a speedy recovery ahead!

Ng Ming Wei is a 26-year-old man with over 18 million followers on Tik Tok. He posted a video of his kind act, which has now gone viral online.

In his video, he chats with each driver, asking them about their job and struggles.

One driver told him that his average rides per day is 11-17, and another driver told him that he earns only $40 to $50 on a good day, because of the pandemic.

Of course, all the drivers declined the tips when he surprised them with the money, but after much persuasion, they accepted.

These are tough times that we’re in, and even if we can’t give $500 away, a little bit still goes a long way. There are also many other ways to help each other tide through the storm.

When it was announced that A&W would be coming back to the shores of our little red dot 2 years ago, it made Singaporeans everywhere excited. On the opening day, there were snaking-long queues that lasted for about an hour.

So why were Singaporeans so hyped about A&W?

This dates back all the way to Singapore’s first A&W outlet in 1966. Netizens whose schools were nearby the fast food restaurant recalled going there for either a before or after school treat, having the Coney Dogs for Tuesday specials. Someone also recalled the “Papa Burger, Mama Burger, and Baby Burger” – something that is no longer available in today’s A&W menu.

Unfortunately, A&W had to close down back then due to a canal widening scheme around the area where they’re located. Although that brought disappointment to many Singaporeans, that place definitely left many good memories for us.

Mr Gilbert Goh recently took to Facebook to share an encounter he had with an elderly uncle at Waterloo Street. According to Gilbert’s post, this elderly uncle eats leftover food whenever he does not have the money to get his own food.

Gilbert shared that this uncle is a fan of the soya bean drink and he once saw the latter sipped on leftover cups before. This elderly uncle was not the only “elderly leftover-food-eater” Gilbert saw. He said, “Several of these elderly folks have eaten leftover food for many years at hawker centre and it has become a survival instinct for them.”

As Gilbert had been providing $50 to these elderlies at Waterloo Street each week, the uncle was really glad to see him as that meant he could finally fill his stomach with proper food. He asserted that he will continue to look out for these elderlies by handing out $200 to them per month.

Upon seeing his post, netizens have soon come forward to extend their help of wanting to make a monthly contribution. Gilbert also asked Singaporeans to let him know if they know of any elderly who eat leftover food and need financial help.

Given that Gilbert does not know these elderlies personally yet went out of his way to help them shows that there is compassion in all of us. Many people are struggling due to the pandemic, so it is heartwarming to see people stepping up to help those who need help.

Kindness costs nothing, but it could mean everything to these elderlies out there!

According to Lianhe Wanbao, one passenger shared that he took bus 966 from Marine Parade to Toa Payoh, for 2 consecutive days, to which he had the same bus captain.

He said that the bus driver stopped the bus and took 5 minutes for his toilet break, before continuing the journey.

When the reader hopped on the bus the next day, the toilet break happened at the same time, but the he noticed that the driver didn’t seem like he was in a hurry.

As passengers, are we really not okay with bus drivers taking toilet breaks? It is rare, when our bus captains pause our rides, but is it wrong?

Facebook user, Andrew Wong, recently took to social media to share a heartwarming encounter he had with a cleaning auntie.

According to his post, he shared that he was at Geylang Bahru Hawker Centre having dinner when a cleaning auntie passed by his table. As she was wearing a mask, he couldn’t really hear what she said and only managed to catch a few words like “buying a drink”.

Mr Wong initially thought she was asking if he could buy her a drink and he was more than willing to do so. When he asked her what she would like, that’s when he finally understood what she actually said behind her mask.

The auntie actually offered to buy him and his dinner mate a cold drink instead! That took them by surprise but they eventually turned the offer down politely. Afterwards, they had a short hearty chat with auntie before she left to carry on with her work.

On 15 July, Alex Chua took to Facebook to share an encounter he had with an elderly uncle. He shared that whenever he goes to buy food at Owen Road, he will never fail to see an elderly uncle sitting at the same spot moving twigs on the floor.

After seeing him quite a few times, Mr Chua decided to approach him to see what he was doing out of curiosity. What he saw left him in awe. Apparently the uncle was making a portrait of a lady just by using twigs! He even added small details like the eyelashes.

Mr Chua also added that the uncle was friendly and looked like he was in his seventies.

Netizens have soon come forward to express their amazement, saying that the uncle is talented and that his work is “incredibly magnificent”. Some also mentioned that they spotted some of his other artwork before.

Like what Mr Chua said, “Regardless of education, gender, orientation and age, art holds no boundaries nor restrictions.” To be able to use only twigs to create such beautiful art pieces, that is real talent right there.

This is the place where most Singaporeans get to enjoy a delectable plate of chilli crab, mee goreng, satay, etc, during the 70s and 80s. Almost anything is good there!

Some netizens recalled heading there for a meal after enjoying a morning of water-skiing or fishing by the sea.

Some also recalled how bus service numbers 82 and 83 will terminate their service there and when it’s time to get going again, the bus drivers will have to make a difficult u-turn at a very tight spot. Sometimes they’ll have to make 3-points turns and customers at the restaurant have to move away if not their chairs might get knocked down. And yes, they have to inhale the bus fumes as well…
